How quickly this term has flown by - this is our last newsletter for term 2.
Thank you to all our families who were able to come along to our Parent/Teacher evenings. It was great to see such a huge turnout, despite the very chilly evenings. These events are a great opportunity for our staff to connect with our busy parents and for our parents to talk about their expectations and hopes for their children.
Our LiL families were included in our evening events with their own LiL By Night held in the LiL area. It was a very successful evening with families participating in the organised fun events. Thank you also to those families who were able to join us. A very special thank you to the parents who volunteered their time to henna some hands. Your designs and skill were amazing.
I hope that you are able to have some fun with your children during the holidays – some ideas are to do some cooking together, draw, go for a walk, go to the park, make slime, make a 'cubby' inside (use sheets or towels), play a game, dance to some music and read, read, read! Our wonderful library in Glenorchy is open and free! (PS – limit time on devices and supervise children using any form of social media)
As we break for our winter holiday, I wish to thank, on your behalf, all of our wonderful staff. Every day I see every adult giving their absolute best to ensure our children have the best opportunities to learn. A big THANK YOU to everyone!
Kind regards and happy holidays
Wendy Potter
In Prep-1 Morrisby/Paul we have been looking at and learning about all the 'r' words we know. Our favourite 'r' word was ROBOT! At the end of the week we got to make our very own robot. We used household items, paper plates and cups, boxes, lids and many other things that we reused and recycled!
Congratulations to our students who represented Glenorchy Primary at the State Cross Country Championships at Symmons Plains on Tuesday. All of our runners placed well in their age groups and showed great sportsmanship by cheering on the other runners. Well done!
Students from Prep to grade 6 have been participating in the Premiers Reading Challenge this term.
The Premier of Tasmania Mr Gutwein believes that the more you read the better you will become, just like sport.
The challenge is for students to read 10 books in 10 weeks!
Many of our students have already read and recorded their 10 books, and have kept on reading! Well done!
What a fun time we had coming to LiL at night! Our theme was Light and Shade, Dark and Light. There were light boxes, glow sticks, shadow play, puppets, dinosaurs roaming in a dark park and so much more.
Our 'henna' activity was much appreciated by parents and staff alike!
Mums, dads, carers and children enjoyed the many activities and we ended the night with the children and families helping us pack up the room, then enjoying sharing fruit, jellies, stories and rhymes.
There were wheels of all types at the first of our two Wheelie Tuesdays, scooters and two wheelers (with and without training wheels), with helmeted riders wheeling around the closed Hull street carpark. Students had 'wheelie' good fun showing off their skills launching themselves off and over the jumps.
The Prep-grade 2 students took to the track a little more cautiously but full of enthusiasm. There was a great show of camaraderie as those with scooters and bikes shared with those who didn't.
