Firstly, I extend to you all, a warm invitation to our parent/teacher evenings. These will be held on June 25 and 26. These sessions are designed to share communication about student’s learning progress. We will be sharing reports, samples of student learning and general information about classroom attitudes and learning. Please keep an eye out for the booking information which will be available soon. We would love our families to make the time to come in to hear about the progress their children have been making.
You may have heard on the news that there is quite a lot of talk about social media, gaming and the online environment and how it can be unhelpful to our young people. We do know that young people connect with their friends online and also some enjoy gaming, We also know that too much computer time is not good for student’s brains. There are a lot of online resources to help parents keep children safe and to have conversations about time limits, rules, and controls. Here’s a link which may help you - Gaming | eSafety Commissioner
I wish to congratulate our student leaders who have been representing our school so well. It is wonderful to see how they are helping the younger students and modelling our school values. Thank you, families, for your work to raise respectful, kind and responsible young people.
Next Wednesday there will be a short parent meeting for parents of our grade 5-6 students (3:00pm) to chat about transition to high school and any other issues of interest or concern to you as parents of (nearly) teenagers! I do hope you can make it!
Kind regards
Due to the conflict with the Interschool Cross Country, we will now do our school photos over two days so no children will miss out.
Our Kinder, Prep and grade 1/2 children will be on Wednesday 5 June.
2/3 Brunning, 4 Reid, 4-5 Watson, all grade 5-6 children and family photos will be on Wednesday 12 June.
We apologise for any inconvenience to our families.
Drew Wilkinson from the Tas Fire Service visited Glenorchy Primary this week to share the fire safety message with all our students. The program has been designed to teach young people about basic home fire safety. It is a great program and children learn how to drop, rock and roll and they can also work with their families to create an evacuation plan (which we hope is never needed!)

Last week interested students across years 3-6 raced a cross country course to qualify for the school team to run in the Interschool Cross Country next Wednesday. The weather was not ideal but students braved the icy winds and wet ground to show their style. Those students who chose to 'have a go' showed great courage and put in a great effort as their supportive classmates cheered from the sidelines.
We wish those students selected all the best on Wednesday 5 June at Bayview College.
National Simultaneous Storytelling 2024
Students from 1-2 Crowley and 1-2 Fall/Smith joined another school at the Glenorchy Library to listen to a reading of Bowerbird Blues by Aura Parker as part of National Simultaneous Storytelling 2024.
This annual event is a fun way to promote the value of reading and literacy and brings together 2 million people across Australia and New Zealand who all read the story simultaneously.
The book chosen this year stars a bowerbird on the quest for all things blue! The bowerbird's collection, a mix of natural and unnatural objects is dominated by plastic caps, straws and tags, inviting us all to reflect on environmental pollution and its challenges.
Every day at school is important.
Every minute at school is important too - did you know if your child is 10 minutes late each day they will have missed nearly an hour of learning time every week?
